Querciabella Farm

Giuseppe (Pepito) Castiglioni, an industrial entrepreneur and lifelong wine lover, bought just one hectare of vineyard on a Tuscan hill and began to create an estate that would soon embrace the breadth of the region. He dreamed of producing elegant and rich wines, made not only from indigenous Sangiovese grapes, but also from those of his beloved Bordeaux and Burgundy Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco, just to name a few. Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni, son of Pepito, investor and full-fledged entrepreneur, converted the company to organic viticulture in 1988, making Querciabella one of the first wineries in Italy to use this practice. Under his leadership, Querciabella became known as one of the best and most innovative wine producers in Italy in the early 20th century. Sebastiano's passion for animal rights and the protection of the environment has brought organic to Querciabella a step forward. In 2000 Sebastiano introduced a 100% plant-based approach to biodynamics that prohibits the use of animal products in our vineyards or cellars. Querciabella was once again an innovator in the industry and an inspiration in the region. Today that one hectare in Tuscany is only a small part of the more than 100 hectares of Querciabella vineyards. And in these lively vineyards - flanked in the Chianti Classico region by oak woods and rolling hills, and in Maremma by the rugged beauty of an unspoiled Tuscan coast - all the grape varieties Pepito dreamed of now thrive in the rich and biodynamic soil that has become the most important ingredient in Querciabella's award-winning recipes..
