The "50 years" wants to celebrate the purchase of the first fraction of the Caprai agricultural company, in 1971, among the vineyards of Monte della Torre in Montefalco.

  • The label: The particular shape is the exact perimeter of a painting by Benozzo Gozzoli , the main exponent in the museums of San Francesco in Montefalco. Thanks to the collaboration with the Manetti company, a pure gold label was created, giving further importance to the history and preciousness of this bottle, an indissoluble combination between the wine and the art of the territory... a true and own work of art.
  • Process : Following the harvest manual, the bunches are transported to the cellar where they are pressed. The resulting must is placed to ferment inside steel containers. The phase of refinement it consists of an initial period of maturation in barrique, which has a duration of 24 months, and a subsequent rest in the bottle for approximately 8 months.
  • Tasting : It has a color dark and impenetrable ruby red. As dense to the eye as it is to the nose , rich in a layered and varied complexity. Followed by notes of black fruit jam, rose and cocoa, on a spicy range of pepper, cloves and cinnamon; a balsamic note of pine resin finishes a bouquet that is, to say the least, broad. It has well-present but perfectly integrated tannins which do not affect the persuasive character of the sip but, on the contrary, enhance it. A wine with a long life expectancy. It is a wine that can be well stored in the cellar for up to 10 years.
  • Pairings : it goes without hesitation with roasted and pickled game dishes and also with mature and tasty cheeses.

Caprai winery

In 1971 Arnaldo Caprai, a successful textile entrepreneur, purchased forty-five hectares in Montefalco to realize his dream of running an agricultural company for the production of wine. Gradually, once the conviction of valorising the enormous potential of the native Sagrantino vine had matured, the best adjacent lands were annexed to the estate. Since 1988, the management of the company has passed into the hands of Marco Caprai, Arnaldo's son, who with great passion gives the decisive impulse for the success of the estate's wines through managerial management and by initiating collaboration with professionals in the sector and with Research institutes, both in the agronomic and oenological fields. Since '91 the company has been subjected to an enormous effort: acquisition of new vineyards, experimentation, technological modernization. The results can already be seen in the short term: the best clones and breeding methods are identified, the most suitable fermentations, the woods for an optimal refinement process. The '93 selection of Sagrantino di Montefalco (which celebrates the twenty-fifth anniversary of the company) places Marco forcefully among the great producers of Italian wine. In the last five editions, the Guide to Italian Wines published by Gambero Rosso and Slow Food has awarded Sagrantino 25 Anni the prestigious Tre Bicchieri award. Added to this are other prestigious awards, including the super three stars of the Veronelli Guide and the Wine Oscar as Best Producer awarded by the Italian Sommeliers Association. Since 1995 we have been reaping the fruits of intense work made up of important investments and research, to offer the best of our products. Today's objective is that of thirty years ago: constant and meticulous work in favor of quality, research and experimentation with new agronomic and oenological techniques, the diffusion of the culture and tradition of the territory from which the company is made interpreter.
