Created in 1962 and launched in 1972 to celebrate the bicentenary of the maison, La Grande Dame is a tribute to Madame Clicquot , an emblematic, strong and inspiring woman. In 1805, on the death of her husband, she took over the reins of the Maison at the age of 27, at a time when women had no place in the business world. Champagne Veuve Clicquot

Our Maison currently owns one of the most important vineyards in the region, both in terms of surface and quality. The 390 hectares are divided into 12 of the 17 Grand Crus and 20 of the 44 Premier Crus that make up the entire Champagne region. An exceptional heritage built over the centuries starting from the first parcels and plots planted by the founder and then expanded by the various managers of Veuve Clicquot. A heritage that boasts above all the imprint of Madame Clicquot. The latter make up only one third of the total vineyard area of the Champagne wine region. The planting of the vineyards is established for the individual parcels according to the soil, climate and exposure. The Veuve Clicquot vineyard is made up of 47% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Noir and 17% Pinot Meunier. The Maison's vines are positioned along the gentle hillsides to benefit from the reduced thickness of the soil and the best exposure to the sun. Since its origins, Veuve Clicquot has forged strong relationships with Champagne winemakers. As producers of grapes and white wines, they provide the Maison with a constant and quality supply.
