Plenum is the Verdicchio Riserva Umani Ronchi, a type provided for by the production disciplinary which requires a minimum aging period of 18 months, of which at least 6 are bottled. The name, from the Latin Plenum, wants to suggest the characteristics of fullness, complexity, and structure. It is a wine that can be appreciated for its long persistence and for the richness of aromas and aromas, which combined with its great elegance, make it unique. The first vintages were produced from a plot of the Villa Bianchi vineyard, today the Plenio is the expression of a vineyard located at a higher altitude, near the village of Cupramontana, in one of the areas historically most suited to the production of Verdicchio.

Umani Ronchi history

Umani Ronchi was born more than 60 years ago in Cupramontana, where the heart of the Verdicchio Classico beats, to then explore numerous other areas of the Adriatic land. It is Gino Umani Ronchi, who begins to write our history. It does so by setting up a small farm in the Marche region. A few years later, Roberto Bianchi, a building contractor from Ancona with a strong passion for agriculture, and his son-in-law Massimo Bernetti, recently graduated in Political Sciences, entered that small company, with the prospect of a diplomatic career The story of Umani Ronchi begins on end of the 1950s, when Gino Umani Ronchi gives life to a small farm in the Marche region, in Cupramontana, land of the Verdicchio Classico. A few years later the company was taken over by the Bianchi-Bernetti family who acquired the brand, together with the property, bringing a new entrepreneurial impulse as a dowry. On 4 January 1968 the transformation into a winery takes place and just a year later the company and administrative headquarters are transferred to Osimo, where the winery for the vinification of Rosso Conero is inaugurated. In the same period, the Castelbellino cellar was strengthened, already dedicated to the processing of Verdicchio. The management of the company is the responsibility of Massimo Bernetti, who pursues three macro-objectives with vision, foresight and an entrepreneurial attitude: to develop the marketing of wines on foreign markets, in particular Germany and England; increase production by adding Rosso Conero to Verdicchio; increase the agricultural area of the company, which will progressively reach over 200 hectares of vineyards between Marche and Abruzzo. In those same years Massimo Bernetti decided to work on the entire production chain, to improve it from a qualitative point of view and to expand the offer starting with red wines, especially Rosso Conero. In 1982 we witness the first vintage of San Lorenzo, and in 1985 the Cumaro was born. Verdicchio is also renewed through the isolation of individual vineyards and reserves: Casal di Serra was born in 1983, and 1985 is the first harvest of Verdicchio Villa Bianchi. We arrive in the early 90s, when Massimo Bernetti, flanked by his son Michele, freshly graduated in Economics and Commerce in Ancona, and with an experience in London at the Sales Department of the import agency that follows the distribution of wines Umani Ronchi in the United Kingdom, decides to start research on the most advanced agronomic and oenological techniques also thanks to collaborations with experts from important university study centers..

Michele's season

Thus begins Michele's season who, looking beyond regional borders, decides to make use of the precious collaboration of the oenologist Giacomo Tachis, known for having created wines such as Solaia and Sassicaia. From this collaboration, in 1994, Pelago comes, the result of a thorough research on international grape varieties and their integration into the local territory, and winner of the International Wine Challenge in London. The award for Best Red Wine in the World brings him to the front pages of the most important national and international newspapers. Shortly after, it was included by the magazine Wine Enthusiast, among the top 100 wines of 1998, with a score of 97/100. 2000 is the year of the new barrel cellar for the refinement of wines: an architectural and cultural project that is part of a broader restructuring plan for the Osimo winery. An architectural work that once again reveals the openness to research and innovation. Michele, together with his technicians, carries out a continuous stylistic refinement work on wines, which translates into the creation of new products and the scrupulous care of existing labels. A work to perfect the Umani Ronchi collection, in an extremely difficult and competitive national and international market, where it is necessary to differentiate, and where the watchword is to pursue quality without mediation. The Decanter Gold Medal at Cùmaro 2004 and the title of White Wine of the Year awarded by Gambero Rosso to Verdicchio Vecchie Vigne 2009, represent the most recent confirmations of a meticulous work that has distant roots. Today Michele combines his more strictly technical and managerial commitment with the development of foreign markets. In this way, Umani Ronchi has become a real international brand, a symbol of Italian winemaking excellence. In 2015 Michele Bernetti was chosen as the Ambassador of the Wine Brands in the world on the occasion of the Milan Expo. At the same time as this important recognition, Umani Ronchi is about to complete the conversion and organic certification of all the vineyards. In 2020 Umani Ronchi is in the Top list of Wine Spectator, among the 34 Best Wineries in Italy.lia.
