Umani Ronchi's Verdicchio is one of the greatest interpreters of this wine typology, widespread in the Marche hills. Since the beginning of its production history, the Umani Ronchi winery has distinguished itself as a point of reference for Verdicchio, through rigorous agronomic experimentation, careful care of its vineyards and the adoption of the most advanced cultivation and winemaking techniques. Currently, the Umani Ronchi vineyard property extends over a total area of 200 hectares, distributed across 10 distinct plots in respect and enhancement of the terroir and the most important native Marche vines such as Verdicchio.
- The vine: The valorization of this last vine by Umani Ronchi began in the mid-80s, with the creation of astonishing crus capable of competing with the great Italian whites, first and foremost Casal di Serra Vecchie Vigne. The Busche vineyard, from which this exclusive Verdicchio comes, was recomposed into a single property at the end of the 70s, only after long negotiations with the small producers in the area: in 2004 the replanting of some vines was followed by the decision to keep intact 10 hectares of rows which, in addition to constituting the historical memory of the company, every year provide the grapes for the Verdicchio Casal di Serra Vecchie Vigne. The particular position, and the great vegetative-productive balance of the old vines, planted in the early 70s, allow the grapes to be harvested only when they have reached a slight degree of over-ripeness. The long period of refinement, first in cement tanks in contact with native yeasts and then in the bottle, gives this Verdicchio cru particular characteristics of fullness and typicality, recognized by the majority of industry guides with the most coveted awards.
- Characteristics: Bright golden yellow, the nose expresses a broad bouquet of broom, chamomile, ripe apricot, pineapple and peach with pleasant hints of wild mint, sage and hazelnut. In the mouth it strikes for its elegance: dry and fresh with an acidity that balances perfectly in the softness of the alcohol. Long savory finish.
- Pairings: Excellent as an aperitif, throughout the meal, it pairs well with roast white meat, roast fish, stuffed pasta.

History Humans Ronchi
Umani Ronchi was founded more than 60 years ago in Cupramontana, where the heart of Verdicchio Classico beats, and then explored many other areas of the Adriatic land. It was Gino Umani Ronchi who began to write our history. He did so by creating a small farm in the Marche region. A few years later, Roberto Bianchi, a building contractor from Ancona with a strong passion for agriculture, and his son-in-law Massimo Bernetti, who had recently graduated in Political Science, entered that small business with the prospect of a diplomatic career… The history of Umani Ronchi began at the end of the 1950s, when Gino Umani Ronchi created a small farm in the Marche region, in Cupramontana, the land of Verdicchio Classico.A few years later, the company was taken over by the Bianchi-Bernetti family, who acquired the brand, along with the property, bringing with it a new entrepreneurial drive. On 4 January 1968, the company was transformed into a Winery and just one year later, the company and administrative headquarters were transferred to Osimo, where the cellar dedicated to the vinification of Rosso Conero was inaugurated. During the same period, the Castelbellino cellar, already dedicated to the processing of Verdicchio, was strengthened. The company was managed by Massimo Bernetti, who pursued three macro-objectives with vision, foresight and entrepreneurial flair: developing the marketing of wines on foreign markets, particularly Germany and England; increasing production, adding Rosso Conero to Verdicchio; increasing the agricultural surface area of the company, which gradually reached over 200 hectares of vineyards between the Marche and Abruzzo regions. In those same years Massimo Bernetti decided to work on the entire production chain, to improve it from a qualitative point of view and to expand the offer starting from red wines, especially Rosso Conero. In 1982 the first vintage of San Lorenzo was produced, and in 1985 Cumaro was born. Verdicchio was also renewed through the isolation of individual suited vineyards and reserves: in 1983 Casal di Serra was born, and 1985 was the first harvest of Verdicchio Villa Bianchi. We arrive at the early 90s, when Massimo Bernetti, supported by his son Michele, fresh from a degree in Economics and Commerce in Ancona, and with an experience in London at the Sales Department of the import agency that follows the distribution of Umani Ronchi wines in the United Kingdom, decided to start a research project on the most advanced agronomic and oenological techniques also thanks to collaborations with experts from important university study centers.

Michele's Season
Thus began the season of Michele who, looking beyond the regional borders, decided to avail himself of the precious collaboration of the oenologist Giacomo Tachis, known for having created wines such as Solaia and Sassicaia. From this collaboration, in 1994, came Pelago, the result of intense research on international vines and their integration into the local territory, and winner of the International Wine Challenge in London. The award as “Best Red Wine in the World” brought it to the front pages of the most important national and international magazines. Shortly after, it was included by the magazine Wine Enthusiast, among the 100 top wines of 1998, with a score of 97/100. 2000 was the year of the new Bottaia for the refinement of wines: an architectural and cultural project that was part of a broader plan for the renovation of the Cantina di Osimo. An architectural work that once again revealed the openness to research and innovation. Michele, together with his technicians, carries out a continuous stylistic refinement work on the wines, which translates into the creation of new products and the scrupulous care of the existing labels. A work of perfecting the Umani Ronchi collection, in an extremely difficult and competitive national and international market, where it is necessary to differentiate, and where the watchword is to pursue quality without mediation. The Decanter Gold Medal to Cùmaro 2004 and the title of White Wine of the Year awarded by Gambero Rosso to Verdicchio Vecchie Vigne 2009, represent the most recent confirmations of a meticulous work that has distant roots. Today Michele combines his more specifically technical and managerial commitment with the activity of developing foreign markets. In this way Umani Ronchi has become a true international brand, a symbol of excellent Italian winemaking. In 2015 Michele Bernetti was chosen as “Ambassador of the Marche del Vino in the world” on the occasion of the Milan Expo. In conjunction with this important recognition, Umani Ronchi is moving towards completing the conversion and organic certification of all its vineyards. In 2020, Umani Ronchi is in the Wine Spectator Top List, among the 34 Best Wineries in Italy.
